Today was a bit rough. We attempted to hike down from Catarina to the Apoyo Lagoon. We were warned that there was a group or bandits waiting down at the bottom to wait for hikers. Giovoni was mildly concerned but apparently this happens all the time and usually the bandits don't wait there the whole day so we continued on. After about 20 minutes of hiking, we ran into another farmer who again stopped us and warned us that the banditos had just recently been through here. He mentioned they all had machetes and that these weren't the good bandits. We asked Gio what was most likely going happen if we ran into them and he told us so calmly that they would steal "all our stuff". We had our cameras on us and we could tell that Giovani was getting concerned about this threats. Unfortunately, we had to turn around and hike back up because it wasn't safe enough for us to continue down to the lagoon.
Luckily, we were able to drive down to nice travel lodge and spend the day there swimming in the lagoon. The water was beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better weather.
