"¡Tantoooo tiempooo! ¿Que paso de vos?"
Every Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay knows that this is the worst thing to hear when you walk into a room. It really just means "long time, no see" but coming from Paraguayans, it means "Where have you been, what happened to you? Did you fall into a hole and die? Why haven't you come around here recently? I thought you forgot about us. I thought you left and were never coming back."
ANYWAY.... I feel like I deserve a "¿que paso de vos?" from you guys, since it's been awhile since I've given you any real-life updates as to what I'm actually up to over here.
So without any further ado... here's what's happened to me and what's been keeping me busy these past couple months and here's the most entertaining life updates I can come up with...

So I used to do yoga alone. Now I have friends to do it with. Every Monday at 18:00 at Hotel David. Come watch me teach yoga which includes a lot of me making up names to poses when I don’t know how to translate them into Spanish, making jokes that nobody laughs at, and asking the class very frequently with too much enthusiasm “¿cómo sentimos?” (how do we feel?).
I’ve been teaching P.E. this year at my school. Whenever I needed a laugh, I used to make the kids do jumping jacks, because well, apparently they aren’t as easy to do and it takes a lot of hand eye coordination to get your bottom half and your top half to do the correct thing. There was a lot of flailing around, even from the most athletic of the students. Anyway, now that I’ve been teaching P.E. for so long, jumping jacks are no longer funny and the kids can properly execute the Jumping Jack. Gold stars for everyone. I must be a fantastic teacher.
I’m still teaching my Mommy & Me class, but the time and dates have changed so more mommies can attend. I had a pretty successful class last week where we talked about the importance of eating fruits and veggies, so here’s a some of the photos because it was so darn cute.
I joined a band. Okay, so I snuck on stage while Yvypora was playing and banged two sticks against a chair. Anyway, I enjoyed myself and now my next big plan is to purchase a ukulele so I can spend all my free time learning to play it so I can be in the band for real. Well, most of my free time now goes towards writing a memoir about my life, but the rest of it will go towards ukulele practice.
I celebrated Chipi’s First Birthday. I made her doggy-friendly cupcakes, we sang happy birthday to her and then we lit a sparkler in the street. She was pretty overwhelmed by all the excitement, but in the end, I think she had a great day!
I finished my nutrition course with the middle school! I asked one of the kids what he learned in my course and he told me “division”. I’m just gonna blame that on a language barrier. But actually, I compared the pre-tests to the post-tests and in general, the kids seemed to get smarter. And every single student wrote down a personal heath goal, and each goal actually made sense, which makes me more happy.
September is here (cue wake me up when September ends….) (JK)! But that means our winter is coming to an end (if you could even call it a winter this year) and SPRING is, well… springing!!!
WELL, there you have it. Hopefully it won't take me so long between posts next time. We're into the final few months of the school year so hopefully I'll get some more projects wrapped up here and get some more updates coming at you!
Oh, and Chipita wears glasses now.
